Edge Computing: Why Your Website Should Be Everywhere at Once

Traditional hosting puts your website in one data centre. Edge hosting puts it in 300+. Here's why that matters for every business.

The Geography Problem

When a customer in Tokyo visits your website hosted in Frankfurt, their browser has to send a request halfway around the world and wait for a response. This round trip — called latency — adds hundreds of milliseconds to every page load.

On a modern 5G connection, the theoretical maximum speed isn't the bottleneck. Physics is. Light travels through fibre at roughly 200,000 km/s, which means a Frankfurt-to-Tokyo round trip introduces at least 120ms of latency before a single byte of your page is sent.

Enter the Edge

Edge computing solves this by distributing your website across hundreds of data centres worldwide. When a customer visits your site, they're served from the nearest edge node — typically within 50ms network distance.

The performance improvement is dramatic:

  • Average load time: 4.2s → 0.8s
  • Time to First Byte (TTFB): 800ms → 80ms
  • Core Web Vitals scores: C → A across the board
  • Why This Matters for Business

    Performance isn't just a technical metric — it's a revenue lever.

Google's research shows that for every 100ms improvement in load time, conversion rates improve by 1%. For a business doing $50k/month in online revenue, that's $500/month per 100ms of improvement.

Amazon famously found that every 100ms of additional load time cost them 1% in sales. At their scale, that's $1.6B/year.

Your numbers are smaller, but the principle is the same. Fast sites convert better.

    Edge Infrastructure and SEO

Edge performance also directly impacts SEO rankings. Core Web Vitals — which include LCP (Largest Contentful Paint) and INP (Interaction to Next Paint) — are now direct ranking factors.

Websites with excellent Core Web Vitals scores rank higher than technically identical sites with poor performance. This isn't opinion — Google has confirmed it as a ranking signal.

    What Khanani Innovations Deploys On

All Khanani Innovations infrastructure runs on Cloudflare's global edge network — 300+ data centres, 100Tbps+ network capacity, and automatic failover across regions.

This is the same infrastructure used by Disney, DoorDash, and Shopify. We've made it accessible to businesses of every size at a fraction of the cost of building it yourself.

Every client we deploy gets a performance score above 90 on Google PageSpeed Insights — or we keep optimising until they do.
